Nestled in the mountainous state of Uttarakhand lies Roopkund, a remote alpine lake that harbors a grim secret. Legends tell of a lone king who led his troops to the lakeside in battle, though upon arrival they found only piles of human skeletons scattered across the shore. Tales persist of a violent hailstorm that concealed a gruesome truth below the placid waters. For adventure seekers with stout hearts, the arduous climb to Roopkund reveals haunting glimpses of the past and sweeping vistas of eternal snows crowning jagged peaks.

Valley of Flowers Trek

Our breath hung before us in clouds as we pressed on, ears alert for changes in the frozen symphony beneath. Though treacherous in spots, the unique sounds and sights made the risks worth taking for these adventurous souls embarking on the once-in-a-lifetime Chadar Trek through Ladakh.

Hampta Pass Trek

Leaving the bustle of Manali behind, our journey into the lush Himalayan landscapes began. Dense forests gave way to open meadows splashed with wildflowers, the towering peaks rising grandly in the distance. As we ascended, the air grew cooler and the sights more stunning, with snowdrifts appearing amid the pines. Reaching the top afforded sweeps of glacial valleys and rushing rivers far below. Though the trails grew quiet as winter’s end approached, the innate splendors of the Hampta Pass more than made up for the lack of company on our march hike.

Kedarkantha Trek

Snow draped the trees and blanketed the trails as we gained elevation within Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas. The untamed mountains seemed to stretch endlessly in every direction above untouched forests. An otherworldly hush lay over the landscape as if in anticipation of warmer seasons to come. Beginners and experienced hikers alike found challenges and rewards on the Kedarkantha trek’s scenic heights at this peaceful time, with vistas to inspire lifetimes of adventures yet to unfold.
